چکیده
Background: Red cell transfusion is indicated to increase the oxygen delivering capacity and it cannot be replaced by any pharmacological agent. Although blood generally safe, adverse effects can occur; hence, benefits must always overweigh risks of before decision transfuse made. Information about aims transfusion, explained patient written consent obtained. Objective: To assess awareness among red recipients. Materials Methods: This prospective descriptive study was carried out at a tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka. recipients were questioned episode after been transfused. Results: There 252 patients study, 82 from surgical units 170 medical units. 37 (45.12%) 79 (46.47%) they being 66% 55% wards knew their group. 77% 57% aware reason for wards, respectively. Moreover, 39% 35% transmitted infections. Conclusions: Awareness own group, significantly low Therefore, education should improved understand patient.

Red Blood Cell Transfusion Practices
Red blood cell (RBC) transfusion therapy is used in the clinical setting for a variety of indications, including patient resuscitation, augmentation of oxygen delivery, and to reverse or alleviate the symptoms of anemia [1–5]. Despite calls for a more conservative approach to blood transfusion as early as the late 1950s [6,7], the trend toward more cautious transfusion practices did not begin u...

Abstract Bachground and objectives: Higher than needed blood orders not only adversely affect blood quality but also impose extra expenses on treatment center and patients. We aimed at determining the frequency of packed red blood cell transfusion in Besat hospital of Hamadan in 2009-2010. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive study on 926 blood order forms in Besat hospital. The data we...
متن کاملAllogeneic Red Blood Cell Transfusion Following the Total Hip Arthroplasty Triggers the Immunomodulatory Responses
Background and Aims: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a common orthopedic surgery. The main focus in the research of THA is immune responses in these patients following the blood transfusion. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the immune modulation indexes such as T cell amplification, Tcell surface markers and also production of cytokines in the patients undergoing THA surgery following bloo...

titers were controlled after each ABO-incompatible transfusion using standard laboratory techniques. In the case of O/A recipientdonor blood group constellation we started adsorption of recipients’ Anti-A with one or two units of A2-RBCs followed by transfusion of A1-RBCs with a higher number of A-antigens per RBC. Using the technique of in vivo adsorption of isoagglutinins recipients’ anti-A o...
متن کاملA Genome-Wide Screen for Large-Effect Alloimmunization Susceptibility Loci among Red Blood Cell Transfusion Recipients with Sickle Cell Disease.
BACKGROUND A selective susceptibility of certain individuals to form multiple alloantibodies in response to red cell transfusion is well-recognized in clinical practice, and is a particular problem in persons with sickle cell disease (SCD). The reason for this differential susceptibility is unclear, but inter-individual genetic differences are likely to contribute. METHODS We conducted a pilo...
